Wisdom of Winnie the Pooh: “Take the Nap FIRST!”
It’s been one of those mornings…. Woken up around 2am to change Jonah’s diaper. Had trouble getting back to sleep. Up again at 6. Come 10:30am I needed to take a break, despite having a major to-do list before me with very few checkmarks.
At times like this, I remember the wise words of Winnie the Pooh…
“If you have a lot of things to do, and one of them is to take a nap, take the nap first.”
Most of the time, however, I don’t even need to go unconscious. I just stretch out on a yoga mat on the office floor, put some headphones on and listen to a recorded talk or audio book on copywriting, marketing or an interview related to a project I’m working on.
10 minutes later — 15 minutes top - I’m ready for action.
Who cares if it’s 10:30am? Who cares if it’s 9am? Why postpone rejuvenation? My writing is always better AFTER a nap, not before.
That’s one of the great benefits of the at-home-FREElance-copywriting life. You have no boss looking over your shoulder, paying you by the hour.
Take advantage of it!
Now, I must get back to editing something I’ll be sending you later today (if all goes well). You’ll want to watch your email (or RSS feed or Twitter tweets). REALITYcopywriting.com is hosting a free live event next week. This isn’t a teleseminar. It’s going beyond your typical teleseminar. It’s going to be September 3rd, at 8pm EST (5pm PST).
Stay tuned, more information coming soon.

With four kids (my oldest being eight and my youngest being 6 weeks old today), we LOVE Pooh at our house. In fact, “Oh, bother!” is my exclamation of choice now. Which is better than swearing since my kids pick up language so fast.
And (more importantly) point of the article noted.
