“These are the biggest con artists of the century”
“These are the biggest con artists of the century.”
That sums up the viewpoints of citizens, commenting online on CBC News - after an article about Henry Paulson stating how he’s “not proud” of all the mistakes that led the U.S. into financial crisis.
As a direct-response copywriter you want to be on top of news that affects generally everybody. Personally, I read mainstream and alternative news sites every single morning.
Even more valuable: Reading the comments that follow. The same people who take the time to comment after a news article are often the same people who will buy the more sophisticated products companies call upon direct response copywriter to sell.
You need to know how the people you write copy for think and feel…
“[Paulson] can’t even say he is sorry…. This man screwed up royally… He is totally incompetent and has no moral fabric.’
“People have to start paying more attention, abandoning the corporate media as their only source of information, and most of all, DOING SOMETHING to hold their respective nations’ career politicians accountable for their actions, and put criminals where they belong, not hand them the keys to the kingdom.”
“Credit crunch. Credit squeeze. Call it what you want but we all pay.”
And here’s some comments from Americans via CNN…
“I’m… stocking up on food! God help us all. Our government is taking the last of the spoils as the ship goes down!”
“Better make peace with your family and circle the wagons, this may be a time for us all to get back to basics and not the outlandish extravagance the good times allowed many of us to enjoy. Here is to budgeting and being helpful to our family, friends and community.”
“…the 700 billion needs first to go to all the people that are losing there homes under unfair lending practices…”
You just read the conversation going on in your prospects’ heads. It’s affecting their buying decisions.
The credit card consumer of the last few years… no longer exists.
P.S. You can read (study) more comments by enraged citizens at…

Here’s something to consider:
I was on a mastermind call yesterday, and all 3 of us agreed that regardless of who gets into office, combined with New Year’s enthusiasm, people in America will have a renewed sense of ambition to get things done.
The new year and spring are symbolic of new life.
That gives me hope as a copywriter and business strategist.

We’re all screwed as long as NYC banks and Keynesian economists call the shots.
Now Canadian communities are working hard to pave farmland into houses. Our food processors have closed the Canadian plants… So we’re importing food from the Chinese — who are so corrupt they’re poising us with melamine.
Best live in the country and grow your own food. That way hungry city dwellers will have difficulty getting to you.
