Sloshing Through Wall Street Blood… And Profiting!

Colin Y.J. Chung | September 30, 2008

Colin Y.J. Chung | REALITYcopywriting.com Yesterday, I woke up on the slaughterhouse floor, soaked to the bone in Wall Street blood.

I can’t stop staring at my crimson stock portfolio.

The following sequence of events comes to mind regarding this recession and copywriting:

  1. The animal panic in the business world will cause needless “organizational restructuring,” shaking out employees… bad or good.
  2. A number of the betrayed and disillusioned, shoved over the edge, will realize that this global economy takes no prisoners. You either mind your own business or get murdered by a “job.”
  3. They will start their own business.
  4. They will need marketers. (Us).

Am I insane or overly optimistic in thinking the above? Let me know in the comments section.

But consider this…

I read somewhere that self-help and biz-op info-products actually increase in sales during hard times.

People take on more entrepreneurial risks willingly when they reach their “nothing-to-lose” crisis point.

Makes sense to me.

What about you?

If you who haven’t leapt into copywriting full-time yet… what’s going through your head? Is your job swinging precariously on a bare thread?

Standing on the edge,

    Colin,

I agree that people will take entrepreneurial risks in hard times. However, if someone has just been released from a job, and hasn’t been involved in business before, I don’t know how soon they’ll realize the need for copywriting itself.

Sure, they’ll look for business opportunities, but will they realize the value of direct-response copy?

Probably the ones who want to go into business for themselves will.
