How Quickly Can You Ramp Up Your Copywriting Skills?

John C. A. Manley | February 15, 2009
Copywriter's cat sitting atop his computer.
My feline office manager, Astral, likes to watch over from above my computer’s monitor as a I write copy. She also co-hosts today’s podcast.

I tried something new this week. A Q&A REALITYcopywriting Podcast! First podcast I’ve ever done. Seemed like a good way to answer the endless amounts of questions I receive via email about copywriting. I just don’t have the time to type out proper responses (I do my best!). This way, I thought, you could get your questions answered, plus hear the answers to other subscribers’ questions.

Here’s what I cover in this week’s podcast…

  • How quickly can you ramp up your copywriting skills in the real world?
  • At the age of 7, what was my irresistible (ridiculous) offer that kept my snow-shoveling “business” booked? (Okay, no one actually asked this question, but I answer it anyways).
  • What is a realistic income that can be generated the first year of copywriting and subsequent years?
  • How do you know if your copy is trying to sell to people not ready to be sold to?

INSTRUCTIONS: Click the “download recording” button to save a copy to your hard drive. You can then transfer it to an MP3 player or burn it to a CD or listen to it with free software like Real Player. OR click the triangular and turn up your speakers to listen to the recording now.

P.S. Whether I ever do another one of these again is still unknown. If you like it let me know in the comment box below or send in a question for the next Q&A REALITYcopywriting Podcast. If I do it again, I’ll try to have a guest with me to provide another viewpoint.

As an aspiring copywriter, I found this podcast very informative and reassuring. Thank you for your time and consideration John! Either way I will continue to read your newsletter for tips and pointers.

I really enjoyed the podcast and thought you covered a good deal of information….including some of my own questions! Hope you decide to keep it up.

I really thought your podcast (and website) provided a down-to-earth approach, a 180 degree feel from what I’ve been experiencing
    elsewhere.

[...] Ha! (That felt good… especially after John’s little cheap shot on Sunday at my addiction to House on his podcast.) [...]
