Audio: #1 Copywriting Country Hit 2008

In last Tuesday’s e-column, before John rudely interrupted me, I was about to tell you something really embarrassing I’ve done. Think of it as my hazing ritual for getting the chance to write on REALITYcopywriting.com
Do you remember when John held a contest the release of “Sell More Without Hype: Indirect Persuasion Copywriting Secrets Revealed”?
You were challenged to rewrite Willie Nelson’s “Mamas, Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys”. A copywriter by the name of Hank Rosen out in Ohio won the contest.
Now, John knew I played the guitar and thought it would be a wonderful idea for me to actually sing and record Hank’s lyrics.
I Have No Idea Why, But I Said Yes
The thing is, I haven’t touched my guitar or sang for five solid years now. I use to be obsessed with music. Played the piano, sang in the school choir, started rock bands, etc., etc. So you think this ought to be good.
But it isn’t.
Let me tell you, five years can do a lot of damage.
Listen, if I were a rock musician, I wouldn’t be allowed to do what I’m about to do. Which is to say, sorry. Forget who said it. Maybe Shirley Manson. But it was something along the lines of:
“Don’t f’ing apologize if you screw up, just keep playing as if nothing happened.”
But I’m no rock musician. So here I go. Apologizing…
- Some of the back-up vocals are off. Who am I kidding? Alotta ‘em are.
- I discovered I could no longer strum the guitar and sing at the same time. I ended up recording them separately.
- And that’s not the worst part. (This is depressing.) I couldn’t carry a tune through with rhythm. I cheated with Apple’s GarageBand to cut and paste parts together. If you hear mouse clicks… that’s where one part ends and another begins…
In my defense, John only gave me one weekend to record this.
So here’s the deal. This song recording is worth a few chuckles at my expense. A riot even.
But in exchange… for my humiliation, I want to ask you to do something for me.
It’s really easy.
Read the “Sell More Without Hype: Indirect Persuasion Copywriting Secrets Revealed” interview sales letter.
That’s it.
I’m not saying you have to purchase it, even though it’s one of the best investments you’ll ever make… I know, because I’ve listened to it more than three times now.
But that’s the deal.
I embarrass myself, you read the letter.
Sound fair?
O.K., here’s my recording of Hank Rosen’s “Mamas, Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Copywriters”:

That was a hoot.

Humbled before you,
Colin Y.J. Chung | REALITYcopywriting.com
P.S. Remember our deal. If you pressed “play”, you have to read the “Sell More Without Hype” letter. Click here…

P.P.S. C’mon. Just read it. Don’t make me get my not-at-all threatening scrawny Asian ass over there…
